ONME Top 10: Advocacy organizations are representing empowerment and change in California

The ONME Podcast Network has a new addition to its line-up of original podcasts; The ONME Top 10 in California, hosted by Jordan Murphy, highlights the best of the best in Black businesses, locations, history and other relative lists unique to the state of California and its African-American residents.


This week's top 10 includes a collection of the "Top 10 Advocacy Organizations in California."


Southern California:


Black Women for Wellness is committed to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through health education, empowerment and advocacy.


Healthy African American Families is a non-profit, community serving agency. Our mission is to improve the health outcomes of the African American, Latino and Korean communities in Los Angeles County.


The Youth Justice Coalition (YJC) is working to build a youth, family, and formerly and currently incarcerated people’s movement to challenge America’s addiction to incarceration and race, gender and class discrimination in Los Angeles County.


Central California:


Kern County’s Black Chamber mission includes business advocacy, networking, and economic diversification for African American businesses.


Black Womxn United, Sacramento is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the education, protection, and advancement of Black womxn.


Northern California:


The East Oakland Collective (EOC) is a member-based community organizing group invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity.


Dream Corps closes prison doors and opens doors of opportunity. They bring together people across racial, social, and partisan lines to create a future with freedom for all.


People's Kitchen Collective (PKC) works at the intersection of art and activism as a food-centered political education project.


The Black Organizing Project is working towards racial, social, and economic justice through grassroot community organizing and policy-change.


Urban Peace Movement (UPM) builds youth leadership in Oakland to transform the culture and social conditions that lead to community violence & mass incarceration in communities of color.
