BREAKING: Karen Bass makes history as the first woman and second black mayor of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES,CA -- Karen Ruth Bass has just made history as the first woman and second black mayor of Los Angeles to former mayor,Tom Bradley, who was the first.
Bass won the 2022 November midterm Los Angeles mayoral election defeating well-known businessman, billionaire real estate developer, Rick Caruso by over 60,000+ votes as of Nov. 17.
Bass will replace outgoing L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, who has served as mayor since 2013, but cannot run again due to term limits.
As a first order of business as mayor, Bass plans to involve getting 15,000 people into temporary or permanent housing within her first year in office. Other crises she will tackle include the rising cost of living as well as recent bouts of corruption and racism at City Hall released to the public.

Bass had been serving as the U.S. representative for California's 37th congressional district since 2011. The district, numbered as the 33rd district for her first term, covered several areas south and west of downtown Los Angeles.
A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served for six years in the California State Assembly, the last two as speaker.
On November 28, 2018, Bass was elected chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for the 116th Congress, 2019-2021.
Before her election to Congress, Bass represented the 47th district in the California State Assembly (2004–2010).
In 2008, she was elected to serve as the 67th speaker of the California State Assembly, becoming the first African-American woman in United States history to serve as a speaker of a state legislative body. She won the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2010 for her leadership during the Great Recession.
Bass was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1953. She received a bachelor's degree from California State University and graduated from the physician assistant program at the University of Southern California. Bass worked as a physician's assistant and was a faculty member at the University of Southern California.
