Join us tonight for the California Politics Now Post Post-Election Discussion with news hosts Julia Dudley Najieb and Brigitte Jones wo will be talking with special guests, Dr. Angelo Williams who is a professor of Ethnic Studies, African American Studies, Sociology, and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Kendra Noelle Lewis, chair of the California Democratic Party Black Caucus;
Guests' Background
Mrs. Kendra Lewis (compliments of Texas Metro News) is a self-described “focused, committed activist for civil rights and justice for all.” Her Democratic Party pedigree is impressive as she has served as president of the Elk Grove South County Democratic Club, and vice chair of the Democratic Party of Sacramento County; in addition to having joined the party upon turning 18. A graduate of California State University – Fresno, Kendra is the past Vice President of the Sacramento YWCA, currently a board member of Traveler’s Aid, a 125-year old Sacramento institution, Treasurer of the San Francisco Community Land Trust, Sacramento Urban Debate League, co-chair of the national organization Girls Who Code Parent Advisory Committee, and a founding member of the Sacramento County African American Coalition. Highly respected, Kendra is passionate and often praised for her bold leadership.
Dr. Angelo Williams is a professor of Ethnic Studies, African American Studies, Sociology, and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with more than two decades of experience as a college instructor and executive leader in government, philanthropy, and higher education. He has served in the California State Assembly and Senate, as well as several state agencies, including the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, the California Student Aid Commission, and First 5 California, where he advanced equity in justice, health, education, and economic development. He started his career as a staff writer for the Sacramento Observer, one of the nation's top African American newspapers.
His published works and contributions include his role as a featured subject matter expert in the Discovery Channel documentary The Crimes That Changed Us: Rodney King (2021), The Power of Black Fatherhood (Los Angeles Sentinel), peer-reviewed and policy research including Families in Flux: Imagining the Next Generation of the American Family (2020), The Case Against Marriage Fundamentalism (2019), Reclaiming the Promise of Racial Equity for Black Males in California (2017), and Leadership Implications of Inreach: A Qualitative Study of Retention Intervention for African American Community College Students (2010).
Earlier works include his M.A. thesis, Implications of California State Assembly Bill 318 (Dymally) and the Closure of Compton Community College (2007), and articles including a profile., Native Son: Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla and the New Latino Power, and California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (The Source Magazine, 2000). He was recently featured by Sacramento's State College of Continuing Education (Nothing Can Be Changed Until It Is Faced).
Dr. Williams is a senior fellow with the Nehemiah Emerging Leadership Program and the American Leadership Forum and was named one of The Sacramento Bee’s “20 Black Change Makers.” His work consistently bridges academic rigor, public policy, and community impact, shaping both scholarship and practice in the pursuit of equity and justice.
