By ONME Newswire

As of Wednesday, July 15, more and more COVID-19 cases and deaths are rising throughout the nation; almost 3.5 million cases, and 138,000+ deaths nationwide.

Unfortunately, California, with almost 350,000 cases confirmed, with over 7,200+ death, has been heavily impacted, with number climbing considerably in specific counties:

According to the recent chart of COVID-19 numbers, San Joaquin Valley counties combined have 40,937 confirmed positive cases and 537 deaths.

Most impacted due to lack of resources are communities of color and women; vulnerable populations are at 3 times a higher risk or more contracting the virus than the majority population.

In the above video, ONME News Review host, Julia Dudley Najieb, shared May and June video clips of Ethnic Media Services media briefings where local California and nationwide experts tackle the issue of racism impacting health, especially during new COVID-19 era: Dr. Beatrice Duncan, Policy Advisor, Rule of Law, UN Women;Dr. Nicole Mason, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and Dr. Kirsten Swinth, Professor of History at Fordham University. All the experts concluded that the African-American experience cannot compare to any other culture, race or persecuted peoples living in America: Dr. Tung Nguyen an internal medicine specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Jody Armour, a professor of law at the University of Southern California, Thomas A. Saenz, President and general counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund and John Yang, president and executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC).
