Defendant sentenced to over 22 years in state prison for armed robbery at Walgreens

FRESNO,CA --Tuesday, Michael David Corral (43, of Fresno) was sentenced to 22 years and 4 months in state prison for a second-degree robbery with use of a deadly weapon against a Walgreens clerk. Corral’s sentence was handed down by the Honorable Heather Jones of the Fresno Superior Court following a plea that Corral entered on Monday, September 12. Corral was previously convicted of a “strike” offense for assault with a deadly weapon on May 5, 2000, and another “strike” offense for carjacking and robbery on May 14, 2004.

On August 14, 2019, police were dispatched to a Walgreens regarding an armed robbery. Following an interview with the store clerk they learned that Corral entered the store and attempted to buy cigarettes with a school identification (I.D.) card. After the store clerk told Corral that she could not help him, he became upset and pulled out a knife from his waistband. After being handed money from the register and cigarette packs, he left the store. Officers arrived and reviewed surveillance from the store and began searching the surrounding area. They were able to locate Corral and have the clerk positively identify him. He was then arrested, transported, and booked in the Fresno County Jail.
