FRESNO, CA--Gov. Gavin Newsom continues to support a concerted effort to make sure everyone is counted in the 2020 California Census; tomorrow the California Complete Count Committee (CCCC) has their quarterly public meeting in Fresno, CA at Fresno State, in Wahlberg Hall from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, agenda available below.
Established by executive order on April 13, 2018 The California Complete Count committee is an advisory panel of community leaders appointed by the governor who represent diverse populations from across the state. The members work to recommend strategies to increase the count in their respective communities.
The CCCC will hear and present updates from the regional program managers overseeing the different local Complete Count Committees (Fresno County is in Region 6) and address agenda items such as an update on the education outreach, local implementation plans status and when contracts and deliverables are scheduled for payout.
One major concern in regards to the 2020 Census in Black communities and other communities of color is the hard-to-count strategies being used to reach such populations to pre-educate them on the 2020 Census--10 years ago California fell short by undercounting 1/3 of the state which was predominantly people of color. Such concerns should be addressed or apparent in the local implementation plan strategies which is to be available to the public and a point of discussion at the meeting.
Residents who have concerns about the process or topics listed on the agenda item are free to express so during the public comments on the agenda. The CCCC cannot take action on comments not relevant to or on the agenda, but one's voice will be heard and considered to be on the agenda for the next meeting.
