City to host community meetings regarding new Southeast surface water treatment facility

  • 1 min read

FRESNO, CA – The City of Fresno will be holding a series of community meetings to provide information regarding the introduction of its new state-of-the-art Southeast Surface Water Treatment Facility (SESWTF). The new facility will treat surface water from the Sierra Nevada mountains and produce drinking water for the residents of Fresno. Residents are invited to attend one of three community meetings to learn more about this water supply transition. This facility is part of the City’s “Recharge Fresno” program.

Times and locations for these public meetings are as follows:

Monday, April 23, 2018

5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

City Hall Council Chambers

2600 Fresno Street

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Temperance-Kutner Elementary School cafeteria

1448 N. Armstrong Ave.

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Fresno High School cafeteria

1839 N. Echo Ave.

This change will enable Fresno to achieve its long-term goal of becoming the first drought-resilient city in California by reducing its dependence on groundwater and replenish our aquifer. Currently most Fresno residents and businesses receive water from the underground aquifer. The SESWTF will introduce another source of high-quality drinking water to many Fresno water customers. Those customers will receive a blend of treated surface water and groundwater. This blend will change seasonally and daily based on water demands. All water delivered to homes and businesses will continue to meet federal and state water quality standards.
